National Week of Action Against School Pushout Oct. 15th- Oct. 23rd, 2016
Join YAYA and our allies from the Dignity in School Campaign (DSC) in the week of action, when we will be launching a series of actions, workshops, and other fun events to build awareness about the school-to-prison-pipeline. Our goal is build more community support to end discriminatory zero-tolerance discipline policies and the use of suspensions and arrests, as well as removing the role of police and use of metal detectors from schools. These practices have historically criminalize youth of color, and continue to negatively impact other students that face discrimination because of they are differently-abled, LGBTQ, or gender non-conforming. Our schools need funding to implement restorative practices to resolve conflicts and create a safe environment, and more resources like social workers and guidance counselors to support the emotional well-being and success of all students!
