CALLING ALL LEADERS, RABBLE ROUSERS, TROUBLEMAKERS AND REBELS WITH A CAUSE, 15-19 YEARS OLD

TheYa-YaNetworkis currently looking for smart, passionate, and motivated young people with an interest in activism and/or community organizing. We are seeking youth (15-19 years old) that want to learn how to take on a leadership position in a variety of social justice movements by building the skills needed to make change happen.Ya-Yadoesn’t just want anyone; we want youth with an eye for injustice and an impatience to see positive change in their communities.

If you join us, you’ll spend 7 fast-paced weeks this summer learning about and actively engaging in social change. On top of that, if you successfully complete the summer program you’ll get a $300 stipend, free transportation home, on field trips and a shot at a yearlong job atYa-Yathat pays $10 per hour.

What you will do:

• Participate in innovative workshops and trainings led by youth and community activists. The workshops you’ll be taking part in are interactive and engaging experiences.
• Visit community organizations in the NYC area to connect with people leading the way in making real change in our communities.
• Go on group trips to a range of cultural events around the city.
• Learn to facilitate and create your own workshops that can be used in your community or high school.
• Build valuable and marketable skills in community organizing and political activism.
• Work with other young people to both plan and implement a campaign that addresses an issue that you’re passionate about.

What you will learn:

• You'll learn about the issues affecting our communities and their root causes.Ya-Yafocuses on a variety of issues such as poverty, housing, education, and immigration just to name a few.
• You'll learn how to identify, confront, and challenge systems of oppression (Racism, Sexism, Homophobia etc).
• You'll learn how to organize a campaign to put thoughts into actions that will actually make a difference in your life and the lives of those in the communities you care about.
